I’ve had the opportunity to teach in many formats… large workshops, speaking engagements, online mentoring, and more. But my absolute favorite is this type of workshop that I’m going to tell you all about!
I designed this learning experience who are on the fast track to reaching their goals and are motivated to make big things happen. It’s a full day and it’s INTENSE. We start early and end late. My student spends over 8 hours working one-on-one with me, focusing on the specific areas that they want to improve. Our time is completely catered to their own individual needs and for that whole day, I am an open book.
Want to see how that all looks in detail?
In February, I had a wonderful 1:1 workshop with a photographer named Shelli. Here’s a detailed overview of our day together, as well as some photos from the styled shootout.
10:00 am – Arrival
Shelli arrived to my house in the morning and we spent some time getting to know each other. I had her favorite snacks waiting for her, to fuel her up for the full day ahead!
10:30 am – Business/Branding/Marketing lessons
After our chat, we dove right into the lesson plans! In the weeks leading up to her workshop, I learned about Shelli’s strengths and weaknesses. I had her fill out a questionnaire in advance that gave me the full scope of what she wanted to learn from me and how I would be able to help her.
During this time we did a brand exploration exercise and a portfolio review. We also discussed marketing strategies, business organization, and client experience. I gave her a workbook and a list of all the companies and products that I use within my company to help me succeed.
1:30 pm – Lunch break
Time to eat! I always treat my students to lunch, dinner, and lots of snacks on the day of the workshop. To save the most time, we opted to order some Uber eats and continue our lesson plans while we ate.
2:30 pm – Leave for the shoot
The workshop includes a mini stylized shoot, where the student can choose if they would like to have a couple in engagement or wedding attire. Shelli opted for wedding attire. I had my past wedding clients, Laurel and Cole, come out and model for us. I also brought on some amazing vendors for the gown, florals, and details so that Shelli could get some great portfolio content!
3:00 pm- Begin shooting lessons
We spent two hours shooting together, covering every bit of knowledge that I could offer in that time. We covered lighting, posing, settings, and so much more. Above all… we had a blast and got some great images!
5:00 pm- Wrap up shoot
6:00 pm- Editing Lessons + Dinner
Over dinner, we downloaded the images we had just captured and got to work on editing them! I showed Shelli my full Lightroom editing process and let her do some editing of her own. She took a ton of notes and also got all of the details of my signature brushes and graduated filters.
8:00 pm- Wrap up
After a jam-packed day, we were both pretty exhausted but so fulfilled! She asked her last questions, we snapped some excited selfies, and said our goodbyes.
Some kind words from Shelli about her experience:
“Thank you so much for the one-on-one workshop! It was truly amazing to learn your techniques, you never shied away from any questions I asked! We covered it all, from the business side to the technical side! Even after shooting for several years it’s never too late to learn new techniques. Thank you again for the amazing opportunity!” -Shelli
So, how did the styled shoot turn out? Pretty amazing!!!
Here’s a peek at the dreamy shoot that I set up just for my workshop with Shelli.
